On March 13th, AT&T held its first live edition of the annual #WomensCareerChat on LinkedIn & X. Women leaders from the diverse spectrum of #LifeAtATT came together for an engaging panel discussion. They shared their thoughts on empowering women through the power of connection, covering everything from networking and mentorship to essential career-building advice.
The panel was moderated by Shanna Applebee CEO - Women of AT&T. There were many thought-provoking questions and the conversation carried on beyond the panel into the comments, here are a few tips that stood out!
How Can women Fuel meaningful connections and
expand their professional Network?
“It is important to share your career aspirations with leaders that you trust, respect, and admire. Share with them your career goals and don't be afraid to ask them "what does it take" to get there?” -Tricia A. Kilian
“My best advice is if you’re afraid to reach out – just do it. You might have some challenging conversations, but they will help you grow! If you’re nervous, try lateral “mentorships/networking to ease into it” - Melissa Zayas “Equally important is the follow-up after the connection is made, as well as deepening existing relationships naturally formed through relationships at work or organizations that you’re in. Schedule in-person or virtual coffee. Reach out when something comes across your desk that reminds you of that person”. - Gloria Lewis

WOMEN & NETWORKING: WHERE CHALLENGES MEET OPPORTUNITY Content From LinkedIn by Rachel Simon, full article here
There is no doubt about it, networking is critical when it comes to personal fulfillment and professional success. It opens the door to opportunities for growth, collaboration, and meaningful connections. Despite the multitude of reasons why women might sit out or avoid networking, they possess several unique strengths when it comes to networking including:

AWF Investor Club
On April 11th, the AWF Investor Club kicked off its first meeting of 2024 with its largest turnout with 232 attendees who participated in an informative discussion about the “Understanding Roth Contributions in Your Workplace Savings Plan”, led by Dan Grauwiler from Fidelity . In our session, we explored various retirement planning tools offered by the AT&T Savings Plan, including 401K, Roth, After-tax, and HSA. We delved into the distinct differences between pre tax and after-tax contributions and used examples to illustrate their impact on paycheck and future tax liabilities. We also took a deeper dive into Roth IRA and Roth 401K to compare their differences on income limit and contribution limits. The discussion then shifted to more advanced strategies, such as Mega Backdoor Roth Conversion, which sparked great interest among the attendees and a fascinating discourse. We wrapped up with a final topic on HSA. Throughout the meeting, engagement levels were high. Participants actively asked questions, creating a lively and productive discussion. If you are interested in providing feedback or wish to be a part of future AWF Investor Club meetings, please contact Ning Wang at nw687w@att.com.
AWF International The "Empowering Women at the Workplace" event was our first live event hosted by AT&T Women of Finance (AWF) in Naucalpan, Toreo. The dynamic Denise Cabanas, LATAM Networking AVP for AWF, introduced the esteemed Rachel Simon, co-founder of AWF and AT&T’s VP- Privacy. The event offered an invaluable glimpse into Rachel's views on networking, and she shared valuable insights from her book 'Relationships at Work: How to Authentically Network within Your Company'. The lively Q&A session further enriched the event, fostering open dialogue and interaction. Her insights helped the audience understand the importance of networking and how it can be seen as an investment for the future. Overall, the event was a tremendous success thanks to the collaborative efforts of our leaders, AWF council, AWF members, and all the people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Special thanks to Denise Cabanas for her energetic hosting, and of course, Rachel Simon for her invaluable insights. As always, we look forward to our next event and more opportunities for learning and growth.
